Taloussanomat is the leading economic online newspaper in Finland. Taloussanomat iPad app brings publication's broad daily news coverage to iPad-optimized form by combining the best practices from tablet apps and the web.
Front page grid allows better skimming. The area where many iPad newspapers and magazines fall short when compared to traditional web pages is skimmability. The traditional page metaphor may be cute but scrolling provides better overview of the content. Taloussanomat application presents the articles on a scrollable, visually enticing grid. The grid can be scrolled infinitely or jumped on daily basis – whichever way you prefer.
Effortless flicking between news articles. Switching between news articles by simply flipping pages is where tablet apps shine compared to web pages. Taloussanomat app does this with a specifically crafted effect where the article follows your finger if wanted but also slides quickly away when so desired.
Optimal reading experience. It's tempting to make iPad newspapers mimic traditional papers with their narrow column layouts but this ultimately leads to an inferior reading experience. Taloussanomat app uses one scrollable text column that is just wide enough to be read comfortably. When in landscape mode, it's of no use to make the content wider just for the sake of filling the empty space. Instead, Taloussanomat keeps the article layout intact and shows you a glimpse of the next article.
Read offline. The application stores automatically the last two weeks worth of content so you don't need to be online to browse the news. Found an interesting article related to the one your're reading? Fear not, it has been also saved automatically.
Share & remember. The app supports sharing articles via the most common social networks. You can also add articles to you personal reading list. What is more, the content added to your favorites list will be automatically stored for offline reading.

After the true inception of tablet computing by iPad, the word on everyone's lips was reading - be it books, newspapers or magazines. Sure enough, some of the largest brands worldwide were quick to boast offerings that brought the paper to mobile in a big way. However, there still remains a large portion of the market that cannot sustain the development of a completely custom application for their publishing needs. This is where Lehtilompakko steps in. It offers a premium level of user-experience and features for publishers to get their existing content onto different tablet platforms – most importantly the iPad and Android.
Lehtilompakko is available as a whitelabel service. With it, the publisher can provide a unique offering of digital magazine browsing features combined with enhancements such as real time news, videos and social integrations to its users. The publisher has the option of customizing the visual and functional aspects of the platform to suit its needs while still saving substantially in costs and roll-out time.
We at Qvik have been implementing the the iPad client for Lehtilompakko in close co-operation with the service's provider Hopeinen Norsu. You can find more information on this exciting platform on its website

Many of us have played the real-life wooden labyrinth games as a child - almost none of us have ever finished one. We say it’s about time! Wooden Labyrinth 3D is everything you ever loved about the nostalgic game married with what you cherish in your iDevice. The game is quite simple, just roll the metal ball from the starting position to the goal without falling into the holes. Don't be fooled though, this can be very entertaining and relaxing. Especially so, when combined with the unique 3D aspects of the game. Jumping the ball by a natural wrist shake is rewarding, and the perspective distorting camera (one of the very first implementations on the platform) makes the game pop out of the screen.
Wooden Labyrinth 3D was an instant success around Europe peaking at #1 in many of the larger countries. On top of that, the paid version managed to grab the #1 position in the home market, before succumbing to Pajatzo. After winning the Apple Design Award 2009 for the best student application at the World Wide Developer Conference, the success spread into the United States. On the best day, WL3D shipped over 70 000 copies (free and paid combined), and has to date been downloaded by over four million unique users. The online level editor which was created using Flash and PHP has also been a hit, and users have created and downloaded thousands of levels.
The ADA win made news in many Finnish media outlets including Helsingin Sanomat and Talous Sanomat. Furthermore WL3D has also been featured in the O’Reilly’s book “Best iPhone Apps. The Guide for Discriminating Downloaders”. On top of the printed commentary, the feedback from users and review sites has also been highly positive, and the game has been praised especially for its usability and polish.

Sleep apnea is a surprisingly common disorder that causes excessive drowsiness during the day and is also linked with increased health risks. Unfortunately, many cases are left undiagnosed as the individual unaware of breathing problems while sleeping. The people at Remote Analysis hope to remedy this problem by providing an easy-to-use tool for observation of one's snoring, which people can use to see if they should seek professional help. They contacted us to create such a tool as an iPhone application; Sleep Aid was the resulting software.
Sleep Aid records a night's worth of audio (the subject's snoring), which can then be examined. A zoomable and scrollable volume graph is drawn, where one can visually identify possible pauses in the snoring and then listen to the recorded audio. Samples of healthy and sleep-apnea-indicating snoring are provided to help the user assess the quality of the snoring. All recordings are stored for later examination as well, so you can take the iPhone to your doctor and have her analyze the samples. The user interface is friendly, esthetic, and easy to use. The zoomable volume graph works like the picture viewer; stretch and pinch to zoom, and swipe to scroll.
Remote Analysis now presents Sleep Aid - one of the first medical observation applications for the iPhone. We at Qvik are proud to have been a part of its development.
